Say hello to the problem.
This is officially the book that started me down the slippery slope which is now my daughter’s book collection. I bought this for my sweet girl before she’d even met the light of day. I couldn’t help it, it’s adorable. The message is sweet and simple, and the illustrations are to die for.
I’m a graphic designer, so illustrations are always what I seem to evaluate first. I love seeing pleasing colors, charming characters, and sweet expressions that I hope my child will someday study closely. When I picked up I Love You, Bunny-Roo by Melissa Marr, I was instantly sold.
Of course, we need not judge a book by its cover, so let’s give content a fair evaluation as well. This book will not disappoint. Melissa writes in short prose that reads to your child like a lullaby. She describes the story that every new mom has experienced – when all you can do is love your new baby and learn how they love you back.
Sidebar: We especially related to, “When I tried to put you down, you kicked and squirmed, and I thought you might be a lost kangaroo. I tucked you in my pouch so you would feel safe.” Because #babywearing provided this mama’s colicky baby with some much needed snuggles.
And can we get back to the illustrations for a minute? Because seriously, this book is it.
Not only has Teagan White created the most adorable woodland animals, but if I could claim any of these animals’ homes as my own, I’d do it in a heartbeat. These charming illustrations are equally for us grownups as they are for our sweet littles.

This was the first book I purchased as an expectant mom; expectant of the future, expectant for what life with our little baby would bring. We didn’t even know if we were having a boy or girl, so we had plenty of questions in the waiting. But not only did our sweet girl love this story, it also gave me a happy calm as I read it to her. Neither one of us knew what we were doing, but we’d all figure it out together, as a family.
And now, it’s still one of her favorite books! Now she gets excited when she sees the sweet hugs and announces “awww, huggies!” She points to all of the animals and tells me what they are. Which ones are mamas and which are babies. She howls with the wolf, snores with the piggie (yes, snores, although we’re also good at snorting, just FYI), and gives me a big snuggle at the end of the story.
We get carried away with this book, it just makes our hearts happy! We hope you like it too.
