Well, here we are again. It didn’t take long for me to share another book illustrated by Teagan White, but I promise it’s worth it. In fact, we love this book so much, you can also find it in our Top 10 Winter list!
Mice Skating by Annie Silvestro tells the story of Lucy, a field mouse who discovers the joy of wintertime. While her friends stay snuggled away in their cozy underground burrow (which of course, is adorable), Lucy embarks on an adventure outside. She loves every bit of the frosty air and the crunchy snow. She loves her cozy knitted hat with a pom-pom and how it keeps her nice and toasty. But most of all, she wishes her friends could experience the fun with her!
Children seem to have a special connection to the outside – they long to experience the adventure and fun and freedom of playing out in the elements.
We’re big fans of Lucy the mouse around here. (Ironically, we love another “Lucy-the-mouse” who also goes on an adventure to find the outside – but we’ll save that for another day.)
Lucy embodies the exact spirit my little girl has about the outdoors. Children seem to have a special connection to the outside – they long to experience the adventure and fun and freedom of playing out in the elements. Lucy’s sweet nature and love for her friends makes my girl smile. It’s though she shares this exact same sentiment when she’s outside playing with Daddy and finds herself at the back window, knocking and asking me to “C’mon mama! C’mon!”
She’s hard to resist. So, like Lucy’s friends Mona, Millie, and the cheesy, pun-loving Marcello (once you’ve read it, you’ll see what I did there *wink*), I usually end up outside with her, our pom-pom hats on, loving the fun of the outdoors.
I hope you love this book as much as we do. It really is a winter treasure for anyone. Whether you like to stay comfy-cozy indoors or find new adventures outside, it’s the most fun of all when we have our friends to keep our hearts warm.
