It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.
Charles Dickens
I don’t know how March is faring where you are, but in Oklahoma springs can be pretty unpredictable. We never have much consistency in the way of weather, and of course there are the tornadoes. We’ve enjoyed the few pleasant days we’ve had so far, and are trying to enjoy the remainder of winter when it makes its reappearance. But no matter what the weather is doing, spring has officially arrived!
In honor of spring, I wanted to share a book we’ve recently acquired – one that has already become a favorite! We’re still in the phase of loving a good lift-a-flap book, and this is possibly the most visually pleasing one I’ve ever seen.
The artwork in this book would make beautiful fabric.
Make It Grow by Debbie Powell celebrates nature with beautiful and bold illustrations. This book takes you through different environments while focusing on color, with each flap revealing brightly colored things that grow. The most remarkable thing about this book to me is how incredibly detailed and beautiful it is while also appearing incredibly bold and simple. The artwork in this book would make beautiful fabric. The images are gorgeous, but they suddenly become wonderful neutral backgrounds for the images revealed by the flaps.
We’ve so enjoyed this book, and we hope you do too. (And currently, it’s a total steal online. so if you’re even considering it, I’d encourage you to give it a shot.)
Enjoy the spring, and when the time comes, make some things grow! After all, isn’t that what spring is all about?
